Hello! I’m Joanne

It’s been a lovely journey so far…

Hello and Welcome to Plant Based and Well Traveled – a blog that has given me a lot of joy, opportunity, purpose, and reflection over the past few years. When I started this blog, I had recently gotten married to my dashing husband, moved from Canada to sunny and (thankfully rainy) Spain, and become a mom to our wonderful son.

Although I was well aware of blogs, I had no idea they were businesses or how to become a blogger. In the past, I had regularly eaten at vegan and vegetarian restaurants and had written reviews on Happy Cow, but knew very little about travel, fashion, lifestyle blogging, or Instagram.

Now, a few years later, I find myself grateful for my insistence on starting this blog and figuring it out on my own, without any help. I’m sure I would be further ahead by now if I had hired a website designer or a blogging coach. However, my approach allowed me to learn skills and find meaning in my work beyond clicks, comments, and conversions. Because of that, this blog has been a work in progress.

From finally figuring out how to add social media icons, formatting, and theme changes, to joining affiliate programs and learning the concepts and terminology behind digital marketing (I highly recommend the Google Digital Marketing course on Coursera), my feelings and reasons for blogging have changed over the years as I’ve grown.

Just this year, I wondered if I was done, if, although grateful for learning many new skills, I was just burnt out and not going anywhere. But, after a tough morning, it was this blog I went to for solace.

This happy place, filled with tokens and photos, thoughts and musings of some of my happiest days and most treasured discoveries, was where I went to reset, recharge, and remind myself to live in gratitude.

So thank you for being here. Every time you visit, you encourage me to keep going. Come back and visit weekly or whenever you like. Leave me a comment or ask a question.

I promise I am not an expert; I am far from perfect. My house isn’t always camera-ready, and my family doesn’t always get along, but I’m here.

Happy to share some good energy and inspire you to get out and travel, maybe live aboard. Tell you about some great products I’ve found, or acquaint you with some ethical and sustainable clothing brands I can’t live without. And, of course, share some stories, thoughts, and advice from time to time.

Thank you for being here!
