Plant-Based in Florence: Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants & Cafés…

It has taken me way too long to write this post! It’s not for a lack of delicious vegan and vegetarian food in Florence, but rather because I posted endlessly on Instagram and wrote a full Florence vegan/vegetarian travel post on Substack.

However, I’ve been watching the analytics of my Rome vegan eats post go sky high all summer, so I figured there might be some interest in Florence too.

Florence is such a wonderful city and the food scene is perfect. Whether you’re looking for veganized traditional Italian dishes, breakfast or market spots, desserts or my husband’s Florence favorite – a falafal place- there really is something for everyone at every price range.

So, in no particular order – as they were all delicious – here are my Florence Vegan/Vegetarian picks.

Not all of the restaurants are solely vegan or vegetarian – some just have options – but they are all worth a visit. Andiamo!

Ora Restaurant Via S. Zanobi, 126R, 50129 Firenze FI, Italy

This fantastic meal was a great way to start our Florence Adventure. The menu was interesting, creative, and full of flavor!

The decor is charming, and the staff is friendly and efficient. This is a great place for solo travelers to larger parties.

Nirvana Restaurant Via Il Prato, 4/b, 50127 Firenze FI, Italy

This restaurant kept popping up on all the best of lists, so we made a reservation. And we sure were glad we did!

If you like seitan, you should plan to visit this place a few times. I’ve never seen seitan done so many ways.

Their pasta and faux cheeses were as tasty as the Tiramisu and chocolate pudding. The staff was super friendly, the atmosphere was charming, and we saw/heard many locals. And the price and quantities were excellent!

Atomic Falafal Via Camillo Cavour, 116 rosso, 50121 Firenze FI, Italy

What a gem. We popped in here when we saw all those delicious Za’atar breads in the window. And we liked it so much we went back again. This spot was easily one of my husband’s favorites. Friendly, quick service and delicious food at a great price.

“As a vegan who travels a lot, I know falafels, and these are excellent!” – Husband

Shake Café Via Camillo Cavour, 67/69R, 50121 Firenze FI, Italy

Every city and town needs a spot like this. It’s such a wonderful, fresh place with a great menu.

I noticed many patrons, like us, were enjoying full breakfasts, while there was also ample space for those working on their laptops and sipping coffee. The food was excellent, and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Il Vegetariano E Vegano Marcello Bianchi Piazza del Mercato Centrale, Via dell’Ariento, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy

This is a fun place in the busy market. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options and plenty of high table/barstool seating.

Cortese The Raw Patisserie Via de’ Guicciardini, 124R, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy

Promise me that if you visit Florence, you will see the David and have a treat at this raw vegan dessert spot!

There are many fabulous cakes and cookies, tarts and energy balls, coffees, and teas. The ambience is modern, and the staff is friendly.

L`OV Osteria Vegetariana  P.za di Cestello, 3/R, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy

This is easily one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been to. There are so many details, large and small, making it the most whimsical, botanical, eclectic space.

The menu is good, and the service is excellent. I highly recommend adding this spot to your itinerary, as the decor alone is well worth the visit.

Are you planning a trip to Florence? Let me know if you try any of these wonderful spots!
